ARTIST’S STATEMENT

”The true paradises are the paradises we have lost.” - Marcel Proust

I grew up in Hawaii and I spend as much time in the ocean as I could. We moved away when I was just fourteen to even-toned Cascadia where the water is gray and cold. I’ve since come to understand its difficult beauty, but it is not my paradise- lost to me as a boy. Ive been back to Hawaii, and it feeds me- but it is clear now that the paradise lost is what I took with me and feel as an ache; murmuring just below heavy seas, floating on a heavy sea.
